Fire Station Field Trip

This Thursday, October 2, is our first class field trip.  We will be walking to the local fire station and learning about fire safety.  If you haven’t yet turned in the trip slip, I’ll send additional ones home with your child this week.  Please sign and return it so your child can join us.  Without a signed trip slip, your child will not be able to attend.  Here are a few reminders for our fun day:

  • All students (AM and PM) should arrive at school at 9:00 and be picked up at 1:00.
  • We will be walking about 5 blocks to the station, so kids should dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Each child should bring a lunch with the child’s name on it. We will be eating in the classroom after returning from the station.
  • It’s going to be a great trip!

Weekly Letter- September 15

Lending Library Now Open for Business!

One of the major components of our preschool program is our lending library.  Everyday, we will encourage the kids to pick out a book from our classroom lending library and take it home to read with parents.  Each child has their picture on a check out envelope located by the classroom door.  During dismissal, Ms. Harris and I will help the kids pick out a book and put the library card in their name pockets so we know what book they checked out.  Please read the book with your child at night, then return it to school the next day.  After your child signs in in the morning, you can help them put the library card back in the book and return the book to the lending library so they can pick out a new book at the end of the day.  Students may check out one book or ‘letter kit’ at a time.  Therefore, make sure you return the book to school in order to get a new one.  It’s OK to keep the book for a few nights if your child wants to read it again and again!

Show and Tell Reminder

Our show and tell procedure got off to a great start last week.  Kids are welcome to bring in something they’d like to talk about each day for show and tell.  Last week kids brought in everything from a special book to an interesting piece of tree bark. Let me know if you’ve got any questions!

Welcome to Preschool!

Welcome to Preschool!  I’m looking forward to a wonderful new school year.  Miss Harris and I are excited to work with you and your child to help everyone succeed in these early years of school.

Here is some basic information to help us kick the school year off right:

  • Arrival and Dismissal- Students in the AM class will arrive at 9:00 and be signed in by a parent or guardian.  AM students should be picked up promptly at 11:30 and signed out.  Students in our PM class will enter the room at 12:15.  They are to be picked up and signed out at 2:45.  Since the time between classes is the teacher’s only opportunity to eat lunch and set up for the PM class, we ask that you please respect these arrival and dismissal times and follow them each day.  Thank you!

  • Supplies- Our supply list is on the back of this letter.  Please be aware that I will collect all the supplies when they come in, and then distribute them as needed.  Therefore, please stick to the list so students aren’t burdened with unnecessary materials.

  • Change of clothes- Though our children are growing in independence each day, there is still the occasional wet pants accident.  Therefore, we ask that each child bring one change of clothes that we will label and keep stored at school.  This makes the accidents much less embarrassing for everyone!

  • Lending Library- One of the wonderful opportunities you’ll have this year is checking out library books from our Lending Library.  You will receive more information on this special literacy program in coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Thank you so much for your cooperation, I am eager to meet all of you and work together to make it a terrific school year!

                                                                           Sincerely,

Mrs. Strobel and Ms. Harris
